An Educated, Quality Workforce

Union has many educational opportunities, public and private, within its borders and more advanced opportunities within an hours drive. With the population growing so rapidly in the School District, programs and facilities are being expanded annually.

The Union R-XI School District was founded in 1835 with the building of a one-room log schoolhouse. Our district now includes six campuses: Central Elementary, Beaufort Elementary (consolidated with the district in 1964, Clark-Vitt Elementary, Union Middle School, Union High School and the Union Academy. The total enrollment of the district is nearly 3000 pupils. In 1999, a $10 million bond issue provided construction of a new elementary school and renovation of the five other campuses. More recently, Union High School has undergone a major renovation and expansion which includes an expanded cafeteria area, relocated administration offices, a state-of-the-art theatre and a new gymnasium.

The school system is MSIP-accredited and in 2001-02, 2002-03, 2004-05, 2006,07 and 2007-08 was awarded Distinction in Performance by the Missouri State Department of Education. A major strength of the school is the relative stability of the teaching and administrative staff. The average experience in the district is 16 years.

Parochial School:
Union also has a private parochial school, Immaculate Conception School. With an excellent, qualified staff and a caring, faith filled community where parents, teachers, pastor and principal work together to ensure that your child(ren) will receive the finest Christian education possible, Immaculate Conception School is an exceptional educational alternative.

Opened in 1902, with numerous additions and renovations since, the School currently offers Pre School through Eight grade classes with approximately 325 enrolled for 2005.

To offset tuition costs, Immaculate Conception School sponsors events throughout the year. For more information, call Principal Patricia Corley at (636) 683 – 2641.

East Central College:

Founded in 1968, East Central College was established to serve the educational needs of people in east central Missouri. One year after voters created the college district, classes were first held in temporary facilities at Union Memorial Auditorium. That same year, 114-acre tract of land was purchased for what is now the main campus.
The Administration Building was the first facility built on campus, and it was completed in 1971. The Multipurpose Building came next in 1973, followed by the Vocational-Technical Building in 1978 and the Classroom Building in 1985. Our most recent addition to the main campus is the new classroom/auditorium facility constructed in 1997-98. The campus now encompasses over 200 acres and the college also has facilities in Washington, St. Clair, and Sullivan. Courses are also offered in Rolla and other communities in the region.
Today, the college serves more than 3,000 students each semester. While many are recent high school graduates, others are adults who have returned to school for a variety of reasons. We also provide summer camps for young people, training for business and industry, and community seminars and programs that cover a variety of topics.
East Central’s faculty is proud of their commitment to excellence in course offerings, instruction, counseling, and advisement.
East Central provides the personal contact and interaction that are essential to the quality of education you need in today's world.
Several major public and private universities are within an hour’s drive of Union. Most are easily accessible by Interstate. They include: Saint Louis University, Washington University, University of Missouri – Rolla and University of Missouri – Saint Louis.
